Creating a color set

Before you can use the color mixing feature, you must create a color set. On the Color set tab, select from hundreds of brands and colors the ones you have on hand or want to use.

Real color mixing digitally without wasting paint

On the Color mixing tab choose specific colors of specific brands to mix, specify the proportions and get the resulting color mixture in various consistencies.

You can choose any color from your color set and mix them in any proportion to see at a glance what the mixture will look like without wasting real paint!

ArtistAssistApp uses a highly accurate empirical model based on Kubelka-Munk theory to simulate real color mixing, designed specifically for artists.

Cadmium Yellow Lemon mixed with Cobalt Blue in 1 to 1 ratio results in green.

Cadmium Yellow mixed with Cadmium Red in 1 to 1 ratio results in orange.

French Ultramarine mixed with Quinacridone Rose in 1 to 1 ratio results in violet.

Mixing primary colors

There are 3 primary colors that can't be mixed from other colors: Transparent Yellow Medium, Quinacridone Rose, and Phthalo Blue Greenish.

These 3 colors plus white and black allows us to mix any color hue we wish.

As watercolors are transparent, the white color is not needed because the white paper can show through a diluted watercolor layer.

For example, these 3 colors mixed in 1 to 2 to 3 ratio result in dark gray.
